Max sleeps at Eastern Creek Raceway

On July 21, Max and over 100 teachers, slept outside to raise awareness of homeless people and to help raise money for St Vincent de Paul who look after the homeless people.

When Max arrived, he had to register and get his name tag. Max wore the tag around his neck. The cord was a bit long so he had to be very careful.

After arriving at the Easter Creek Raceway with Mrs M, Max got a sheet of cardboard that he was to use as his bed for the night. He was gald that Mrs M had brought a spare sleeping bag for him to sleep in.

Later that night he heard many people talk about how sad it was that so many people did not have a home where they could sleep at nightime.

Max saw many of his old friends including his friend who took him to Egypt

and some from Mary MacKillop!! Max got very excited when he met so many people who remembered who he was.

The next morning, Max woke up. It was so cold there was ice on the cars!!. Max joined everyone in a Liturgy.

As Max left to go back to school with Mrs M, he felt very sad that some people had to sleep outside all the time because they did not have a home.

Max at Riverview

On 16th June Max the Monkey visited the 5.2 class at Riverview. It was a wet and rainy day so he just tagged along with us to our classes. We told him how we all went to Chinatown last week and had Yum Cha which is all sorts of Chinese food. He would have especially liked the spring rolls and the dumplings. We had jelly to finish the meal. Some boys ate so much they were sick. We also visited the Chinese Gardens and Dickson Street to do some shopping.

Andrew and Ned then took Max to the computer lab and taught him how to use Google earth. He found all the places he has travelled to around the world, which is a lot actually. We looked at all the places he has been on his blog.

At lunchtime we talked to him about soccer. Bailey taught him some tricks, he was very good at it and then he taught me some tricks but it was very hard. I think I am better at rugby but we had a great day talking and playing and having fun with him.

Then we took him to music lessons with us. He tried the violin and the cello but he definitely liked the drums the best. We all had fun. He’s a great monkey. We had a bit of an accident on the way back in all the rain and mud. Nick slipped over and was covered in mud – and he was holding Max. He tried to save him but our teacher is going to wash him and his jacket tonight before he leaves Riverview.

It is a pity he could not go with us to the school snow trip next week because there is a lot of snow falling. We liked having Max visit. Hope his next place is fun.

Max finds friends in the UK

Max was very excited today when he was told that a school in the UK had heard all about him.

The children from Teyfant Community School heard about Max and even made a link to his blog from their website. How exciting!

Max searched their website and found Tizz. Imagine Max's surprise when he read about how Tizz had travelled to Spain.

Max sent an email to Mrs S and asked if he could go to Spain too!

Mrs S sent an email to Max and told him that she knew somone was going to the UK later this year and perhaps Max could go too and meet Tizz.

Friday, June 1 - Excursion and Farewell

Yahoo! I went on another excursion, this time by bus with Year 4 to Cumberland State Forest. We did so many fun things there. We went on a trail walk, planted seedlings, looked at the nursery, went in the greenhouse and went on a detective hunt. I found lots of clues to the questions! It was the best!

I said "Goodbye," to all my new friends at SMM's and thanked them for looking after me, making me feel so welcome and providing many new learning experiences for me. I can't wait for my next adventure... Do you know where I am going next?

Thursday, May 31st

Today I spent some time as a photographer with Mrs BC's classes. First with Year 2 taking photos using the digital camera of different types of transport to be used as a labelling activity. Then with Year1, where I had to choose from a selection of clothing worn in different types of weather and take a photo.

Finally, I helped the Kinders take photos of things found in our school garden. There weren't many insect that we could see, so we mainly took photos of plants. I didn't even climb up any trees this time! I didn't want to worry the Kinders (or give them any ideas!)

We also used the Interactive Whiteboard for other classes. I had so much fun using it! It was great!

Wednesday, May 30th

Early this morning I waved goodbye to Year 6 who went on a 3 day excursion to Canberra. I was invited along but since I have already been there I thought it would be good to spend some more time with other grades at the school.



I spent the first part of the morning helping KT with their maths activities. It was quite challenging! I also helped them gather information about spiders from a variety of books. I loved listening to the children present their information. I made many new friends and I think they enjoyed having me as part of their class.



Next we went outside with the rest of Kinder to play ball. The ball was a bit big for me to throw up into the hoop, so some of my friends rolled the ball to me instead. They were so thoughtful!

It was amazing to see how many children could throw the ball into the hoop!

Tuesday, May 29th - Excursion

Today I packed my bag ready for an excursion, with Year5, to Mary MacKillop Place Museum. We went over the Harbour Bridge by train and took a 90 min tour of the Museum. We visited Mary MacKillop's house, prayed and had lunch in the grounds. We learnt a lot about Mary MacKillop an Australian heroine with good values. Do you know which suburb she lived in?

Monday, May 28th - Yr 1 Assembly

Wow! You should have seen us dance to the 'Time Warp' at the Year 1 Assembly. We had so much fun! I think everyone else that watched us was very impressed by our moves!

We also showed everyone how we had written a procedure for making popcorn and then one for fairy bread. The best part of the procedure was eating what we had made. Yummy!

I was also lucky enough to be in a group that talked about learning how to do subtraction. I was given lollies, then I ate some and the children had to work out how many were left. I love this type of Maths!

Monday May 28th - Pentecost Liturgy

Everyone at school participated in a beautiful Pentecost Liturgy. When the song 'Hearts on Fire' was played we all joined in and waved red crepe paper around to the music. I still sing the song, even when I am doing other work.

Saturday, May 26 - Dance School

After having so much fun at the school Disco I asked Mrs E to take me along to dance school with her on Saturday morning. All of the boys and girls made me feel welcome. I tried the Jazz class and the Hip Hop class. They even talked me into doing the Ballet class. It was a bit hard for me to reach the bar but I still tried. Mrs E made a special tutu for me to wear. (I think she thinks Max is short for Maxine!)

I had so much fun! I think I will keep up the dance lessons. I love moving gracefully as well as grooving to the music!

Friday, May 25 - At The Park

At lunchtime I went to the park with Year 6. I made sure that I ate my lunch quickly so I could have a lot of time to play on the equipment. The slippery dip was really high and slippery. Luckily I put my feet down just in time so I didn't fall to the ground.

The Year 6 soccer match was very exciting! Everyone kept cheering for their friends. They even encouraged me to join in and kick the ball.

They have some large trees at the park. I couldn't resist having a swing on the branches! My friends at the park were concerned for my safety, but I reassured them by reminding them of my natural ability to climb and swing from trees.

Thursday, May 24

Last night I went to a big building and watched a football game on the big screen. I knew it was an important game because there were lots of people there.

I wore my blue coat and when it started I could hear everyone calling out "Go Blues!"

I thought they were talking about me but Mrs A said they were shouting for the N.S.W. State of Origin Team.

They didn't win. The team called the Maroons won. I had a great time anyway. Mrs A said my next school friends might take me to the second game and the Blues might win then.

Wednesday 23rd May

This morning I entered the Mathematics Competition with 98 other students at this school. I'm really good at working things out and I think I will do well because I tried to do my best. Everyone was so quiet and on task.

Straight after the Competition I went to a library lesson with Year 4. I continued to reference the websites I used during my research on National Parks of Australia. I learnt how important it was to record where I got my information from, so I don't break Copyright laws.

Tuesday 22nd May - I Love Reading

Today I went to the Library to borrow a few books to read after school. There were so many books to choose from. I went straight to the Fiction shelf to find a book written by my favourite author. She has written many books for children and adults. Can you guess who she is?

While I was waiting for the rest of the class to checkout their books I snuggled up with a good book in the reading area. I LOVE READING!

Monday 21st May - AFL

I couldn't wait to finish my homework and go to the park. Now to keep fit and healthy I am enrolled in the 6 week Auskick program. There were so many children kicking balls, running around and having fun.

We had to divide up into two groups depending on our age. The warm up games were fun! We played lots of different games to learn catching, passing and kicking skills. It was cool watching our coaches stretching to catch the ball when it was passed or kicked to them. Then it was our turn! Opps! They didn't even mind when the balls accidently bounced on their heads. Two police officers rode past us and cheered us on, they were so friendly! Some parents even joined in and were coached on how to pass, catch and kick an AFL ball.

There were four fantastic coaches. Here I am with Dean Connors who played in the Reserves for the Swans. Before I had my friend take this great photo I remembered to ask Dean's permisssion to use the photo and his name in my Blog.

I even received a backpack full of goodies just because I registered to play! I can't wait to go to a live match again. Go the Swans!

Monday - Homework Group

Time to get some help with my homework. It's a bit hard doing the work since English is not my native tongue and I have been travelling to many different countries and learning their language. The teachers here are Great! They volunteer to help children like me after school. Some students from local High Schools also came to help us.

Monday 21st May - Assembly

Wow! You should have seen the Year 4 Assembly. We all joined in the prayer and I got to read in front of everyone. I thought I would be scared but everyone around me kept telling me that I will be fine and it wouldn't matter, even if I did make a mistake. I'm lucky to be part of such an accepting group children and teachers.

We sang the song 'Jelly on a Plate' and played musical instruments to accompany it. I got to play the triangle.

I even learnt about National Parks of Australia. I can't wait to join them on an excursion to visit one!

Friday Night - DISCO

I couldn't wait to join my friends at the School Disco. The music was great! There was a rush to buy glow sticks. Luckily I was able to purchase a blue one.

After dancing for a while I ate the best sausage sizzle, smothered in tomato sauce. Yummy! I was so hungry after working so hard at school.

We had so much fun and danced the night away.

Friday 18th May

Mrs A packed me a great, healthy lunch to take to school.

When I arrived at school I played games with my new friends. When the bell went I lined up with Mrs A's class. Everyone wanted to be my partner.

I loved spending time learning in her class. I even helped out with the wheat experiments! I wonder how tall the wheat will grow with lots of water and sunshine? Would it still grow as tall if we did not water it and left it in a dark cupboard?

Thursday 17th May - Night

On Thursday night I went to the Olive restaurant with some of the teachers. I enjoyed my banana entree followed by lots of Greek food.

As I was driving in the car we went past another school where I had visited. But it was late so all my friends from St O's had gone home.

I ended up having a sleepover at Mrs A's place. I enjoyed breakfast with her family. She has such a cute puppy! I jumped into her basket to give her a big hug. She really liked me!
