Max in East Timor - Dili (Part 2)

“Arte Moris” is a special art gallery in Dili. “Arte Moris” means “Living Art” . At Arte Moris young people can study art and display their paintings and sculpture. Many of the art works depict East Timorese life and customs.
Here are some examples of beautiful East Timorese art from Art Moris.

This is a pastel work showing life in the country where rice is growing in the field, the water buffalo helps the farmer plow the field and another farmer is taking sacks of rice to market in his cart pulled by a horse. There is a traditional thatched house near the rice field where the farmer lives and mountains in the background.

This is beautiful art work of a traditional East Timorese dance called the ‘Tebedai’. Women dance in a circle with a small drum called a ‘babadok’ under their arm. They are wearing traditional cloth called ‘tais feto’. The men represent warriors coming home from battle and they also wear the traditional cloth called ‘tais mane’. Again there are traditional thatched houses in the background.

This is a very different, very interesting and very modern painting of fish. There is so much to see. The fish are going in so many different directions, they are so many different colors and sizes and the backgrounds are swirling around.
